Mossel Bay is a coastal village and harbour in the world-famous Garden Route region of South Africa. This popular holiday town is surrounded by a sun drenched peninsula and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. It is a busy summer destination as well as an ideal winter retreat. It is blessed with the most wonderful mild climate all year round, and is also the historical capital of the Garden Route.

FROM CAPE TOWN ON THE N2

This is the quickest route from Cape Town to Mossel Bay with many interesting towns and villages along the way. From Cape Town, take the N2 via Somerset West, the fruit-growing Elgin district, Caledon, Riviersonderend, Swellendam, Heidelberg, Riversdal and Albertinia to Mossel Bay.
Drive time (excluding stops): approximately 4 hours.

FROM CAPE TOWN ON ROUTE 62

The drive from Cape Town to Mossel Bay via Route 62 - the World's Longest Wine Route - follows quiet country roads through some of South Africa's most spectacular mountain scenery. Follow the N1 from Cape Town via Paarl to Worcester. Now follow the R60 via Robertson to Ashton. Here take the R62 to Montagu, Barrydale, Ladysmith, Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn. At Oudtshoorn,turn right onto the R328 to Mossel Bay, crossing the Outeniqua Mountains on the Robinson Pass
Drive time: approximately 6 hours.

BEACHES IN THE AREA

The most striking thing about mossel bay's beaches is often how long they are - and how clean. The stretch from Dana Bay to Vleesbay is 12 km long and Diaz beach stretches all the way to the Great Brak River Mouth (more than 20km of white sand to explore).

    6 km of beach; 2 swimming areas of 200 m each, 1 of 80 m; ablutions; 20 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
  • Little Brak River Beach - Little Brak.
    3 km beach; Braai facilities; boat launching; 2 ablution blocks; 25 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
  • Dana Bay 1 2 and 3 - Mossel Bay.
    2 swim areas with ablution blocks; braai facilities; look-out point for whales and dolphins; 20 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
  • Dias Beach - Mossel Bay.
    3 km of beach with swimming areas of 150 m & 800 m; 2 ablutions; social area; municipal caravan park.
  • Outeniqua Beach - Between Mossel Bay & George.
    6 km of beach; 4 swim areas of 100 m each; ablutions; 30 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
  • Tergniet Rheebok Beach - Little Brak River.
    8 km of beach with 4 swim areas; tidal pool; 3 ablution blocks.
  • Santos Beach - Mossel Bay.
    1 km of swim area; restaurant; municipal caravan park with ablutions; angling.
  • Glentana Beach - Between Mossel Bay & George.
    4 km of beach; braai facilities; day camp with ablutions; 30 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
  • De Bakke Beach - Mossel Bay.
    Municipal caravan park & chalets with ablution blocks; 50 m swim area; angling.
  • Boggoms Bay - Mossel Bay.
    1 km of beach with 2 swimming areas of 80 m each; boat launch area; 45 minutes drive from Mossel Bay central.
